Bo-Irish Holsteins and Bo-Irish Newfies are owned by the Gary and Mary Housner family in rural Elroy, Wisconsin.  Bo-Irish was named after our heritage, Gary is Bohemian and Mary is Irish and thence the name.  We have been blessed with our family that consists of 5 children as well as 6 wonderful grandchildren that enjoy everything the farm has to offer from the baby calves, as well as the goats, llamas, horses, and of course the playful puppies.  About six years ago, we added Newfoundland dogs to our dairy family.  We decided to breed these wonderful companions and now have our puppies in 23 states including Alaska.

Our registered Holstein herd consists of 185 head of cattle, including 76 milking cows as well as the youngstock of heifers and bulls.  We milk 3x a day and have bred several national leaders for milk production, fat, and protein.  We normally have from 10 to 15 elite cows on the top 5,000 CTPI locator list.  Our BAA is 109.7 with 8 Excellent, 26 Very Good, and 7 Good Plus.

We have had success with several homebred bulls doing well at Select Sires, especially Bo-Irish RJ Lead Ready-ET and Bo-Irish RJ Reliable-ET.  More recently, our bull, Bo-Irish Alton-ET at ABS, has been on the top TPI international bull list for the past few years.   We also bred the no. 1 bull in the Czech Republic, Gorgonzola.   Gorgonzola is 24th on the January 2008 TPI bull list as well.

We also have other cows doing exceptionally well at Bo-Irish (besides the 5 that we are featuring below).  We have 2 Outside twin sisters, scored VG 88 and EX 90 producing over 2100 lbs of fat.  An 86 pt. Durham daughter out of a 94 pt. Progress that is just fresh with her 2nd calf and milking well.  We have an exciting Damion heifer out of a 96 pt. Counsellor that we are currently flushing. It is our hope at Bo-Irish to continue to provide genetics for the world with high CTPI, high production, and high type for the future.
